Deanwood Heights Main Street InitiativeDeanwood Heights Main Streets supports business retention and commercial corridor revitalization for the commercial areas bounded by:
  • (western boundary) Minnesota Avenue, NE from Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, NE to Sherriff Road, NE;
  • (northern boundary) Sheriff Road, NE from Minnesota Avenue, NE to Eastern Avenue, NE;
  • (eastern boundary)  Division Avenue, NE from Sheriff Road, NE to Foote Street, NE; and,
  • (southern) Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, NE from Division Avenue, NE to Minnesota Avenue, NE.
 
Business Retention and Recruitment
Deanwood Heights Main Streets is a neighborhood resource to help strengthen the operations of existing businesses and enhance their competitive advantage through the services such as:
  • interior retail space improvements (e.g., improving window display to showcase retail goods and attract customers and  managing placement of merchandise to improve in-store traffic flow);
  • commercial building improvements (e.g., store facades, signs, awnings, window glass replacement)
  • marketing businesses to customers (e.g., print ad campaign, web sites, retail promotion events);
  • technical assistance to improve businesses’ operations (e.g., managing inventory to better track sales and control expenses and repositioning product mix to respond to changing consumer demand); and,
  • recruitment of businesses that contribute to offering a business mix with the goods and services needed by neighborhood residents and other customers.
